7-Aug-2007 i.just.wanna.buy.a.laptop: what is the difference between an ADSL router and a cable router and which do i need ? I plan to buy a laptop and i want wireless internet. My desktop pc is using Homecall broadband. Does that even make a difference ? im so confused !!

Easycom: If you get your broadband over the telephone line you need an ADSL modem if you get your internet over a cable connection (Virgin Media) you need a cable router.

19-Mar-2008 Raks: Hi, I have two questions - is this item compatible with a BT Broadband line and, also, can it be used with the Acer Aspire 5920 Gemstone laptop - LX.AKVOX.108 (assuming that this laptop has the relevant wireless adaptor built-in) ?

Easycom: Yes it is compatible with BT Broadband line and can be used with Acer Aspire 5920 Gemstone laptop.

31-Mar-2008 Jodie: Does this product work on aol broadband

Easycom: Yes, this product is compatible with AOL Broadband.

13-Apr-2008 topstranger: Hi, I have this Netgear wireless router for my laptop through a BT line, i now have a Dell PC which I want to connect up to the internet and run wireless, i have been told I need a wireless dongle and need help!!! The PC has Windows XP and my laptop is Vista and I'm completely baffled!

Easycom: You would need something like WG111GE, WG111TGE, or WPN111GE for USB wireless adapters.

2-May-2008 Lydia: Does this run on Vista? Also, assume it's compatible with the Lenovo 3000 I bought from you this week ;-) ?

Easycom: Routers run completely independantly of PCs - Anything with an ethernet or wireless connection is compatible.

18-May-2008 Sana: I have Tiscali broadband, connected to BT phone line, via wired speed touch ADSL filter and wired speed touch 330 Thompson modem connected to my desk top PC, working fine. Now I want to coneect my ASUS latop PC purchased from your company recently wirelessly and desktop PC wiredly via netgear wireless router. What else accessories I need smoth wireless net working.

Easycom: You dont need anything else, plug the desktop PC and the modem into the router with network cable and then you can enable the wireless connection from the router's configuration page.

24-May-2008 himanshu: i have desktop pc having asdl broadband modem (wired). now i have bought laptops. I want to use internet on laptop as well as on desktops. will this router is useful for me???

Easycom: Yes.

18-Jun-2008 azlonic: I want to connect wirelessly with a laptop, a desktop and a mediaplayer (squeezbox). The set up I imagine will have no wired connection. Can I use this device for that? thank you

30-Jul-2008 SJ: Hi, I have a speedtouch USB ADSL PPP modem with Tiscali Broadband. How would I set up one of these routers so that I can connect to the internet (wireless) with my laptop?? Some people have said you can't do it as the modem is connected via a USB to the actual tower of the PC. I am really confused, Help, thanks

Easycom: This has an integrated modem so you would put the same settings into this as you put into the speedtouch and plug it straight into the phone socket. You will then no longer need to use the speedtouch modem.

6-Aug-2008 Confused: Is this router Vista compatible?

Easycom: Routers run independantly of PCs. So, it doesn't matter what operating system you use.

18-Aug-2008 trev: I am about to buy a laptop & also a desktop PC. The PC will be connected to a BT line upstairs. The laptop will hopefully connect wirelessly downstairs. Do I need a modem & a router ? Will the netgear router be OK ?

Easycom: Your netgear model should be fine.

18-Aug-2008 Darcy: Whats the difference between ADSL and DSL if any?

Easycom: DSL stands for Digital Subscriber Line, which is a term that covers a lot of services, including ADSL. The A in ADSL stands for Asymmetric - This means the upload speed is slower than the download speed (they are not symmetrical). Most if not all phoneline-based broadband in the UK is ADSL, as the upload speeds are considerably slower than the download speeds.

23-Nov-2008 shaun: hi i have aol broadband with a cable router will this affect the price of my aol

23-Nov-2008 shaun: hi i have aol broadband with a cable router will this affect the price of my aol

david s: No but I thought Aol was through a phone line in which case you would need a adsl router not a cable one

5-Nov-2007 kevin: does this product come with a wireless adapter for my desk-top pc

Easycom: No it doesn't however we do sell both internal wireless network cards and USB wireless network adapters. However if your PC already has a network card then it can be connected through an Ethernet connection.

29-Nov-2007 Andy: I have a DSL connection with Tiscali at the moment and have the little USB modem, Will this product replace the modem straight off or will the modem plug into this?

Easycom: Unfortunately not, as routers work with ethernet connections and the modem you specificy is USB (Im presuming the little blue Sagem one?). Therefore you will need a modem router which will replace your existing modem then allow you to share the connection. Have a look at product code DG834PN.

18-Aug-2008 fm: You say connect to a BT line. Is this router compatible with all irish broadband providers?

Easycom: There are two kinds of router out there at the moment. Cable (Virgin) and ADSL (phone line, such as BT, SKY, Tiscali) If you have a normal phone line then that router will work for you.

25-Aug-2008 ged: I have a advent 7037 laptop and could not connect wirelessly to the Thomson ST585 router, so I bought a Netgear wireless WG11 USB 2.0 adapter for the laptop but still can't connect. I'm using AOL on a BT line. Can you help please? Would i need a Netgear router? I have a desktop pc and thats working fine.

Easycom: Do you have a wireless router? If not then you would need one to connect the laptop to the internet. If you have, then it maybe a fault with the laptop or the adapter.
