Mail Servers

A mail server runs an email application such as Microsoft Exchange. This allows a business to centrally store, share and back up e-mails, contacts and calendar items. Users can then access their e-mails and calendars though a variety of methods including client software, such as Microsoft Outlook, or via web interfaces that are similar to Hotmail or via mobile devices such as a Blackberry or other smartphone.

Minimum Spec: – Mid Range Server – Tower or Rack, 8GB, Single CPU, 2x small Hard Drives for the O/S, 3x large Hard Drives for the database, Windows 2003 or 2008 server with SQL Server or Small Business Server Premium Edition

Best Spec: High end Server – Tower or Rack able to store 8 hard drives, 8GB, Dual CPU, 2x small Hard Drives for the O/S, 4x large Hard Drives for the database (mirror and stripe) and 2x hard drives for the log files, Redundant Power Supply, Windows 2003 or 2008 Server 64 bit, SQL server.
